The demand for two-wheelers is ever increasing in the Nepali market. New brands of motorcycles and scooters of various brands are also entering the market.
Scooters seem to outnumber motorcycles on Nepali markets these days. Two Wheeler market dealers speculate that scooters have become more common on the roads as they are easier to ride and lighter than motorcycles.
But compared to motorcycles, scooters have lower fuel capacity and mileage. Here is a list of some of the most popular scooters currently available in the Nepali market and their features.
Yamaha Ray ZR 125 FI BS6
The new Ray ZR 125 FI is powered by a BS VI compliant, air cooled, fuel injected (FI), 125 cc blue core engine that produces a power output of 8.2 PS @ 6,500 RPM and a torque of 9.7 N.m @ 5,000 RPM.
The power output is +30% and economy are +16% higher, compared to the earlier scooters and the body weight is 99 kgs, which is 4 kgs lighter than Yamaha’s earlier scooters.
The BS6 RayZR 125 Fi gets a 5.2-litre fuel tank. The claimed fuel efficiency is the same as the Fascino at 57 kilometers per liter. It offers a range of around 302km on full-tank.
Ray ZR 125 FI is priced at Rs 2,54,900 and is slightly expensive than the outgoing model Ray ZR of 110 cc.
Honda Grazia
Honda Grazia gives a mileage of up to 60 kilometers per liter. It has a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 liters.
In terms of power, Grazia generates 8.52 bhp of power at 6,500 rpm and 10.54 torque at 5,000 rpm.
It has a 124.9cc, Fan cooled, 4 stroke, SI Engine. With a capacity of 125 cc, the scooter has a ground clearance of 171 mm. Grazia weighs 108 kg.
The company has set its starting market price at Rs 222,900. The deluxe variant of Grazia costs Rs 242,900.
Honda Dio
Honda’s Dio has captured a lucrative market in Nepal. With a total fuel capacity of 5.3 liters, this scooter gives a mileage of up to 50 kilometers per liter.
The Dio generates 8 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 8.77 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The ground clearance of this scooter is 158 mm.
The scooter has both kick and self start function. The total weight of the scooter is 105 kg. The company has set the Nepali initial market price of Honda Dio BS6 version at Rs 216,900.
Suzuki Burgman Street
Suzuki has stuck to the 124cc single-cylinder engine for the BS6 Suzuki Burgman 125, the motor is now fuel-injected. With the BS6 updates, there is a slight change in engine output.
While max power of 8.7PS is the same as on the BS4 motor, peak torque of 10Nm is 0.2Nm lower. The ground clearance of this scooter is 160 mm.

Honda Activa
Activa 125 has better power & torque which gives it better load carrying & climbing capacity with improved mileage.
It comes with a 124.9cc engine with a power offering 8.6 Bhp @ 6500 rpm and 10.12 Nm @ 5500 rpm maximum torque.
The scooter weighs 110kg and comes with a 5.3 liter fuel tank. It has a ground clearance of 155 mm.
Honda claims that the Activa has a 13 percent more fuel economy than its predecessor giving a mileage of around 48 kilometers per liter.
The Activa is priced at Rs 218,900 for the standard model and Rs 231,900 for the more premium deluxe model.
