Jawa Forty Two represents a brilliant new chapter in Jawa history

Jawa-Forty-Two

The new Jawa Forty Two as it’s currently called, will mark the re-entry of the Czech motorcycle brand in India, courtesy of Classic Legends Private Ltd., a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group. Currently, there is a lot of buzz around the motorcycle and it won’t be an overstatement to say that the bike is one of the highly-awaited motorcycle launches for this year. The new Jawa bikes will be sold under this company, while using Mahindra’s resources including the research and development centre as well as the production facilities.

The Jawa Forty Two is the entry-level model to the Jawa brand. It shares its mechanicals with the Jawa Standard, but has a few cosmetic differences – it is the more modern-looking of the two. You get more colours, you get a digital odometer and tripmeters, blacked-out bar-end mirrors, and a black handlebar. There is very little chrome present on this model, although it retains spoke rims.

Jawa Forty Two has retained its retro styling that is sure to turn heads where ever it goes. The traditional round headlight, teardrop fuel tank, double barrel exhaust, spoke wheels and exposed chassis reflect the retro design philosophy, while its small rear fender and the single premium looking seats give it a modern touch.

The Jawa Forty Two is powered by a 293cc single-cylinder liquid cooled engine that generates 27bhp and 28Nm. It has a six-speed gearbox. It runs on conventional telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. There is a 280mm disc brake at the front, with a 153mm drum for the rear. Single-channel ABS is standard.

The bike comes with a liquid cooled engine, which provides more efficient cooling for longer rides. The excellent low-end torque of this bike further aids in daily city stop and go traffic. The bike also has an impressive power-to-weight ratio.

The bike uses a modern Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) configuration. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Braking duties are handled by a 280 mm single discs brake up front and a 153mm drum brake at the rear. The bike features single-channel ABS as standard.

The Forty Two is available in six fetching colours – dark blue, blue, teal (which is a light blue), red, lime green, and dark green. It is priced at INR 1.55 lakhs onward and competes with the Royal Enfield Classic 350 range, the Thunderbird 350 and 350X, and the UM Motorcycle range.
