Sales of Apple iPhone and Huawei phones grow in China in the second quarter of 2020, according to Counterpoint Research

IPhone sales grew 32% in China in the second quarter of 2020. According to consultancy Counterpoint Research on Friday, Apple’s mobile phone marketing index showed positive results during the period in the Asian country despite the general fall in the local market.

Apple and Huawei were the only companies to achieve growth in phone sales during the 2nd quarter of 2020. Both had an increase of 32% and 14%, respectively, in relation to 2019, while Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi suffered falls of 29%, 31% and 35% in the year. Other brands accumulated a reduction of 68%.

In addition, the Chinese market scenario is not satisfactory. Despite the 9% growth between quarters, which may indicate a recovery from the impacts of the pandemic , sales fell by 17% compared to last year. Also according to the consultancy, one in three smartphones sold in China has 5G.

Huawei leads Chinese mobile phone market

Huawei tops the ranking of cell phones sold in China. According to the survey, the Chinese manufacturer takes up almost half of the market share with a 46% share of the local market. The podium is complete with Vivo and Oppo, both with 16% and 15% market share , respectively.

Apple and Xiaomi dispute the third and fourth places, both with market share of 9% after the reduction of one percentage point between quarters of the American brand. The remaining manufacturers accumulate a total of 5% market share during the second quarter of 2020.
