Snapdragon 855 Plus arrives with incremental performance boost

Snapdragon 855 Plus

Qualcomm’s new high-end processor is here. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus is not much different from the regular Snapdragon 855, but it gives us more speed and is also destined for the flagship devices.

The big difference from the Snapdragon 855 Plus to the 855 is the clock speed. The new processor comes with a clock speed of 2.96GHz instead of the 2.84GHz on the Snapdragon 855, a slight increase.

Snapdragon 855 Plus is dedicated to gaming smartphones

According to Qualcomm, this processor is dedicated to all the high-end smartphones coming out in the fourth quarters of 2019. The processor also gets a GPU (graphics) improvement with a further 15% performance.

The statement indicates that this is the ideal chip for all smartphones that are dedicated to gaming or Virtual and Augmented Reality. The GPU is important for such functionalities. Although it is the CPU that gives us the power, while the GPU is there to redraw the screen with graphics asap.

It is expected that handsets by the end of 2019 will arrive equipped with this processor. It is not yet guaranteed whether the brands will adopt this chip instead of a regular 855 because there will be a significant difference in the pricing of the final product. Still, it is expected that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, Asus ROG II or even the Pixel 4 may be offered with the new 855+.

We will only know its true power and quality as soon as this processor reaches the market with new devices. For now, we have to report that the improvements do not seem extraordinary. They look like a small evolution like we had from Snapdragon 820 to 821 a few years ago.
